Baptism
When you bring a child for baptism or decide to be baptised yourself, you are thanking God for His gift of life, deciding to start your child or yourself on the journey of faith and asking for the Church’s support.
Baptism marks the start of a journey of faith, which involves turning away from the darkness of self-centredness, turning towards Christ and becoming a member of the local and worldwide Christian family.
Dedications or Thanksgiving for the birth of a child are offered as an alternative to baptism.
Making arrangements
Baptisms at Emmanuel take place in the monthly all age service. This is so that you or your child can be welcomed into the family of the Church. In turn, the Church will promise to support and pray for you and your child.
If you want to arrange a baptism, dedication or talk about renewing your commitment please get in touch with the office – ring 01262 603033 or email office@emmanuelchurchbridlington.co.uk.
Adult Baptism
While most people are familiar with being baptised as a child, baptism can happen at any age. What matters is that those concerned believe it is right to ask for baptism. You can only be baptized once, but if you want to renew your commitment, there are ways to do this too.

Wedding
A marriage service, wherever it is held, is a public declaration of love and commitment to your partner. Christians believe that marriage is a gift from God. In the marriage ceremony, a couple make a public declaration of lifelong commitment to love each other, come what may.
We hope that you have a wonderful wedding day and that it will mark the beginning of a long and very happy marriage.
Making arrangements – anyone living in the parish or is an active worshipping member of the congregation is entitled to be married in Emmanuel Church.

Funeral
A funeral marks the close of a human life on earth. It is the opportunity for friends and family to express their grief, to give thanks for the life of someone at the end of their journey in this world and to commend them into God’s keeping.
Arrangements for funerals are made in the first place with the funeral directors and then the clergy responsible for the funeral will visit the bereaved family.
The service itself can be from the traditional Book of Common Prayer or the more contemporary Common Worship.
Everyone has a right to a funeral in the Church of England church in their parish, whether or not they were a churchgoer. Here at Emmanuel, we see funerals as an important part of our minsitry and will gladly give time to talk to those who are facing loss, to be with them in their pain, and to help to arrange whatever kind of funeral service is most appropriate.
The fees for a funeral at Emmanuel, as of 1 January 2007, are £153.
